The opportunity I had to serve as President of VARC is one special part of my life. I have always been a racer at heart, and this gave me the chance to meet and become friends with a great number of like-minded people. We can talk about our cars and racing past. We all have something to offer. This is the magic of this group of people. I was asked to try vintage racing by my wife who knows a past President Chuck Dillion. It was her encouragement that got me thinking about getting back on the track after so many years. I had not even gone to a race after I retired from active competition for 20 years. I then got the bug again and talked to a couple friends into restoring an old dirt modified that was languishing in a junk yard for years with trees growing up thru the window. My good friend Terry Wells heard of my plan and joined in and once again we were a team with racing cars in our blood. It didn’t take long to restore the old modified to race ready condition. As they say that was just the beginning. We have gone on to acquire more cars and parts so now we have three sprinters and a modified with an old late model just waiting to get restored. We joined VARC many years ago and have been active ever since.
Now I have to take my life in a new direction, and I ask that you respect my decision to step aside as President. I hope that as members of VARC you will take the time to look into your soul and ask if there is something that you can commit to your organization. Are you able and willing to step forward and help VARC continue into the future? It is my hope that someone will be ready to take over the leadership role of the organization. We will have a board meeting at the Fremont Comfort Inn on Saturday the 30th of October 2021. This will be the time for nominations and voting on new officers for VARC. We are looking for a President, Vice president and two board members positions to be filled.
